T-60 ssd problem

I have a T-60 with an ssd hard drive, dual booted - xp & linux. No problem booting linux but I have to try 4 times for xp to boot - blue screen each time till it finally boots on the 4th attempt - this happens ALL the time like clockwork. however if I boot into linux first for about 30 seconds and then reboot to xp, it boots up with no problem. My wife has an R-60. If I put the ssd in the R-60, no problem - both xp and linux boot up as they should, first time. Same hardware in both computers - 2 gig mem, intel 950, same processor. Both are set to Compatibility mode. Xp has the sata driver installed. I can't figure this out. Any ideas ?

If XP has the SATA drive installed, try setting the BIOS to AHCI.

dr_st - I was wrong - the R-60 was in compatibility mode, and the T-60 was in Ahci mode. I changed the R-60 to Ahci mode and now it has the same problem as the T-60, needing 4 boot-ups to get connected. I could leave them both in Compatibility mode but then I wouldn't have the advantage of Ahci in linux. Guess I'll just have to return the ssd drive.

If you want to run AHCI, all you need to do is install the correct driver.

I have the correct driver installed - had to slipstream it onto the xp disk - and it works fine After the 4th boot sequence, so it's got to be something else - I notice if I don't choose an operating system for about 20 seconds then it also boots fine on first attempt. Maybe an mbr thing.
