New T60 suggestions.

My 64 year old wife is going back to school next autumn. She has absolutely no computer experience, but as college classes these days require some computer literacy she is doing her best to learn.

After a good bit of research, I bought her a used Thinkpad T60 on ebay. I've been using a Toshiba C655 (AMD Athlon II 340 2.20 GHz processor, 4 GHz RAM) I bought about a year ago and was pretty happy with it. . . until my wife's Thinkpad arrived.

I set up her computer to my liking, opened her email account, downloaded Mozilla, and fell hook line and sinker for her machine. I really loved the features and the solid feel of the T60. So much so that I ordered one for myself.

The one I ordered is a T60 2007 CTO. It has an Intel core 2, 1.83GHz processor, 2 G of memory, a 120GHz hard drive, Windows XP, and integrated on board graphics.

My question is this. Are there any upgrades any of you might suggest that might bring my new machine more up to date or am I better off using it as is?

Any suggestions will be appreciated.

Welcome to the forum!

Your T60 appears pretty well-spec'd.

A larger hard drive or SSD (if you're intent on moving to W7 at some point) would be money well-spent, though.

Use it "as-is" for a while and report back any issues.

Happy ThinkPadding!

I'd agree a faster drive or SSD is the thing that'll be the most noticeable.
