Removing and reattaching keys on a T60 keyboard.

#1 Post by Lo-q » Thu May 10, 2012 4:32 pm

The "s" key on my T60 has become troublesome. If I push it anywhere above halfway up the key press won´t register, and also it makes a "harder" sound than the other keys.

My guess is a small piece of dust has found its way in under the key. So I wonder: How can I remove and reattach the key to clear this thing up? Can I just pop it out like I have done on other keyboards? I searched a bit around and from a thread over at arstechnica it seemed it was a somewhat difficult task, with a risk of breaking the key. True?

Sounds like the keyboard is wearing out to me. You can usually pop off the keys without breaking them, but that risk does exist. It may also be possible to replace parts from an identical keyboard, but there are different manufactures for these parts and the keys cannot be exchanged between them.

Unless you have a specialized keyboard, like an unusual layout or language, I'd just buy a new one. If it is rare, you may be able to use parts from a common one to fix it, or perhaps even transfer keys to another.

Good luck and let us know how you make out.

Thanks.

I´m happy to say the key started working again.
