T61(7665-11U) Lost Hard Drive
T61(7665-11U) Lost Hard Drive
My T61 running Win XP Professional produced a BSOD, apparently related to SPTD.SYS. I attempted to recover an Acronis image backup without success. I tried to install a new copy (known to be good) of Win XP, which reported it couldn't find a hard drive. I ran the BIOS hard drive diagnostics and it reported the controller and HD were OK. I replaced the drive with a new one, same result. What's happening?

Try changing Config---> SATA (BIOS settings) from "AHCI" to "Compatibility" and see if that helps.

Re: T61(7665-11U) Lost Hard Drive
The reason winXP couldn't find your harddrive is that there is no support for SATA. It is possible to add SATA drivers to your XP disc, I've done it myself and every XP system I sell comes with a disc with sata driver support added.
It's also possible to slip the drivers in during the install, but this is where microsoft really screwed up... if you option to add the drivers, XP will ONLY let you add them from a floppy disc, which most people don't have.
Because of licensing regulations and whatever I can't send you a disc without a COA, but I'd be glad to teach you how to make one, or if anyone would like a disc and COA feel free to drop me a PM.
ps. the software to make the disc is free, as is my help.
