How do I thinkvantage?

Hi folks. I'm kind of new to the Thinkpad world, having recently bought a used T60P 1951. I've been learning as much as I can about my new machine, but hit a dead end while trying to set up the three buttons located just south of the red pointing button.

The control panel mouse properties in XP provide no options here, and my "Thinkvantage" button does nothing at all.

What am I doing wrong, and how do I get my Thinkvantage programs to work?

Dear llamov,

Congratulations on getting a t60p!

You are not doing anything wrong. I am going to take a guess that the IBM/Lenovo ThinkVantage software is not installed on your system.

I would go to this page first (link below), which is the support page for Lenovo and put in you machine type which is located on the bottom of the machine. It is in this format YYYY-XXX. Then click on Use Quick Path which is about in the middle of the support page to enter your machine type number.

http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/

When you do enter your machine type, you will see the specific listing of what your ThinkPad has, but more important, look under Drivers & Software and your should see a listing for "ThinkVantage Software". Then you will see a listing of software, which I would download System Update, Rescue and Recovery, Power Manager, Fingerprint software (if you have a fingerprint reader), Active Protection System, and Access Connections. Now this listing is for my t410i machine that I put in my machine type (2516-BEC). Your listing will vary. I would do download System Update first, then do the rest.

Let the forum/me know how you are making out and if you need to ask me a question you can send me a PM.

Good luck and Congratulations on your t60p machine!

John
