T60 screen display shifted up, green colored, low resolution

#1 Post by autoraycad » Sat Jun 23, 2012 12:52 am

Hey guys,

My T60 runs well for years and suddenly this afternoon after one restart, the display had problem. The whole screen display shifted up and became flat. also, the resolution beame like 800X600. my screen is 1400X1050. and the whole screen display like in front of a green fog. This issue remains after reboot.

I tried to connect my laptop to an external monitor, it works fine. So, my display card is good.

I tried to update the driver, change the display settings in bios and in windows, but it does not work.

This is a picture of the screen. Hope the image works.

Any ideas what is going on? Thank you very much.

Welcome to the forum.
The GPU has two output channels, one digital for the internal (your green) LCD, and one analog for an external display.
One channel can work while the other one is 'shot', as is the case with your laptop. :(
There's no repair possible, you'll need to replace the motherboard.
Check our Marketplace forum for a replacement.

I never come across anyone who has replaced an ATi x1400 GPU as yet (...and providing you can get one), possibly because they are directly soldered to the T60 motherboard. :(

To replace the motherboard, how do i determine which is suitable for my 14.1'' t60? hope some one can help me to answer the following detailed questions:

(1) is any t60/t61 motherboard for 14.1'' screens suitable for a replacement on my 14.1'' t60?

(2) is it possible that other motherboards with different GPUs can be used? (it is a good time to upgrade my old laptop to a better one, right? :P ) if so, what type can be used?

(3) is there any thing else i should pay attention to after the replacement? such as bios things? if there are some links you can share with me, that would be great.

thank you very much.

1) Any board from a 14" or 15" T60/p will do. The widescreen (15.4") won't.

2) Any GPU will do.

3) 14" T61 boards would call for a small frame modification.
