Is this board compatable with my T60?

#1 Post by Strangelove » Thu Jul 05, 2012 10:28 am

In this thread I mentioned a couple of problems with my T60 (unexpected system freeze) and after
some diagnostics the verdict is that I am in a need of a new motherboard. I found a local salesman
who claims that he worked as an IBM repair technician and is in a possession of a new ("AS NEW")
motherboard that he bought on ebay. The board that is inside my laptop is not it's original one, but an
other one, also bought on ebay, and is not working properly so I am a bit sceptical about this deal.
The seller claims that the board is in working condition, and gives me a 2 week warranty.

My T60 has this marks on itself:
TYPE 1951-CTO S/N L3-FBV16 07/02
PRODUCT ID: 1951Y1U

This is what it says in BIOS:
System-unit serial number 2007AY6L3M1672
System board serial number VF05B65T20X

The board that is inside my laptop is not it's original board, but, another one, also from ebay,
and is not working properly.

This is the auction that I won:

IBM P/N 42T0157, 14"

My question is: Is this new board compatible with my laptop and does this deal seems shady, I don't want to waste
any more money on "lemons"?

Thank you.

Your laptop started out ex-factory (1951-Y1U) with Integrated Intel graphics.
The current poorly-working mobo (ex 2007-AY6) has ATI X1300 graphics.
The possible new mobo (42T0157) has Integrated Intel graphics again, and is suitable for your 14.1" standard 4:3 laptop.

You'll appreciate that almost nobody here can read Polish, so if it's an OK deal or not, who knows?

Give it a shot...

If it fails return it to the seller and we'll find you a board on the forum...

Some of us here do read that funny language that is not Polish... :D

If I were you I'd get a board and matching fan with ATI fireGL graphics. I have them starting at $69-79. I'm not sure what they sell for in your area, but if you're going to do a board swap, why not go with the best board available. I might consider going with a low-end board if it saved me a couple hundred dollars, but these boards are all very cheap.

Thank you for your offer, but the shipping and taxes to Europe would kill me, I think I'll go with this one instead.

I just need something confirmed real quick:

The fan that is inside my computer is:
Lenovo P/N: 26R9434
FRU P/N: 41V9932

is this fan compatible with the board I am about to buy (IBM P/N 42T0157)?

Thank you.

Use this (and bookmark it) for a Forum-Search: http://www.google.com/advanced_search?q ... as_qdr=all
It's much better than our 'own' forum search.
