No sound on ibm thinkpad T60 except error beep sound -

I tried cleaning up my ibm by removing unused softwares, spywares, etc anything I felt was taking up space and slowing my laptop. Soon after, I had no sound on my computer and the volume control icon is not even visible on the lower panel of my desktop. When trying to access the sound via control panel it says "no audio device" under volume panel and all the buttons are frozen - can not be moved or checked. Any ideas on how to fix this?

Try to remember what you deemed 'a waste of space' and reinstall the sound-related drivers.
Just because you consider something irrelevant, doesn't mean that it is!
