Thinking about picking up a thinkpad t61p. It has the t7700 2.4 ghz cpu, I'm skeptical though as I remember reading a forum here and some were saying that these cpu's tend to run really hot. What other thoughts does anyone have? All input is greatly appreciated.

Is it a 14" or a 15" unit?
These machines are prone to GPU failures and a four-digit date code on the bottom (the same sticker that holds the serial number and the full 7-character model number) is deemed to be very important. What is it?

Don't have a T7700 but have two T61 with T7500 and find that they run hotter and drain more battery power than another T61 running with a T7300. The speed increase from T7300 to T7500 was not that noticeable but the power and heat usage was noticeable to me. Personally I'd upgrade to a T8300 or T9300.

It's a 15.4". I was watching it on ebay and there's no picture of the bottom but the character# is 6457-7WU if that's any help sorry I don't have the mfg date.

A nVidia-based T61/p is the last ThinkPad I'd ever contemplate buying from feebay, but your $$$ - your call.

you can see my thinkpad' specs in the signature, indeed the nvidia gpu runs hotter, but if you clean your laptop on a regular basis you won't have any problems.

I agree, there are a lot of really dishonest sellers that are selling them after improper repairs, and other sellers that sell any laptop they can get an tot even ask or check on such things... Caveat Emptor (let the buyer beware).
If you end up buying one that dies within days/weeks/months, you can't say you haven't been warned, but good luck.
