Exchange the T61 Type II slot with the T43 Express card slot

#1 Post by Vonfeffer » Fri Sep 07, 2012 1:25 pm

Is it possible to exchange the T43 PC card combo (which has a express card and a PCMCIA type II on it) with the T61 PC card combo (which has that silly SD card reader ans a Type II slot)? I ask this because I was thinking of installing a USB 3 Express Card adapter to my T61. Am I wrong or the T43 has a more advanced PC card combo than the one on the T61?

Thanks in advance.
You can´t change the past but you can create a better future if you change the present.

The T61 has three possible card assemblies. One has Express card and pcmcia, one has smart card and pcmcia, and another option on the 14.1" was for a 4in1 ricoh card reader and pcmcia, the 15.4" had an integrated 5in1 card reader so you wouldn't want to install the 4in1 on one of them, but they are all interchangeable, to change from the smartcard/pcmcia to an expresscard/pcmcia you'll need to remove the system board from the frame and you'l need to remove the smartcard bezel from the bottom cover and install a flap. I have these parts, so if you're inclined to do the swap feel free to send me a PM.

Also to answer your question about the T43, I'm pretty sure it won't work. I know the T60 won't work on a T61 board and the boards on the two models are very similar, but a T43 is very different. I've never tried it, but it's so unlikely that I wouldn't even wast time thinking about it.

Interesting. I was recently trying to use the XpressCard slot on my T61 and he card just wouldnt go in. I am wondering if something is wrong or I have a different config.
