Motherboard Compatability

#1 Post by biged143 » Mon Sep 17, 2012 4:37 pm

Hey Guy I need to know if a mobo from a 7659-12U will be compatible with either of my dead T61. One is 7661W1K and the other is 7658-03U. The board will come stripped I will have to use everything from mine including the cpu. Posted replies and PM are welcome! Thanks in advance

ajkula66 WOW That was a fast reply!! Thank You!! So I just insert my cpu, thermo paste and a clean fan/heatsink assembly and my CPU concern is over? I was wondering because all 3 are different cpu speeds.

Those are all 14.1" widescreen with Intel graphics.
CPU or its speed is irrelevant between them.

Looks like a bad idea.
If you spill anything, or you don't have a very steady hand, it would be way too easy to cause an unwanted contact that may be impossible to correct.

On those boards, the only thing you want to watch is the cpu chips you use. Some of the boards support only Merom class CPU and some support Merom and Penryn chips. If you have a merom board and want to use a penryn cpu, you can suppress the error messages it will generate with a modified bios, but you'll need to have the board running and stable firest so you can apply the bios update, then you can upgrade the cpu later.

Good Luck

Tuus I know this is a simple question (IMHO there are no stupid questions) How can I determine which is which ? Afterwards if I need the bios changed will you walk me thru it? Thank You
