just checked the driver in device manager, says 'microsoft 6-21-2006 version 6.1.7600.16385'

ibm thinkpad t60, windows 7 32bit, M4 ATA device

is that still the best driver?

If the SSD is displayed in device manager as 'ATA device' you don't have the Sata driver installed.
Install Intel Maxtrix Storage Manager, this will install the sata driver. You don't need a driver from Crucial.
