boot-order bios setting not changeable

#1 Post by halfcard1 » Mon Sep 24, 2012 7:59 pm

i bought this 't60 2007' used, and i can change everything in the bios - except ...

when i go to the 'boot order' screen, like to boot from a certain drive , it says i would need to ask a supervisor. nothing on that screen is clickable.

that is strange because nothing else in bios requires this. i can get past the 'lock' symbol into bios because there is no password.

windows 7 32bit, cloned solid state drive

Your machine is locked with a Supervisor password. Unless the previous owner can provide it for you, I'd be returning that laptop...

dang, i thought going past the 'lock' symbol meant i was ok! oh well, i am having lots of fun playing with it :D

i believe the boot order is ok but i don't really know about these things. at least i changed the bios from 'compatible' to 'ahci'.

Imagine the fun you'll have when the CMOS battery dies and you're left with a brick...

Next time when you see a lock symbol ask the seller for password or don't buy the machine...

You still need the supervisor pw from the seller or return the machine. As per ajkula66, or you will have a brick on your hands eventually.
