Recurring T60 power problem
Recurring T60 power problem
My T60 started acting up a few weeks ago. When I plug in the AC adapter (I've tried two different ones), the AC and battery lights come on, but as soon as I press the power-on button, both lights go out and then the T60 is completely dead. If I unplug the adapter, remove the battery and re-install it, then I can power-on from the battery every time. After the computer boots, I can plug the AC adapter back in and everything is fine (battery charges, etc).
If I remove the battery and try to use just the adapter, this also fails... power-on causes the AC light to go out and computer dead.

Re: Recurring T60 power problem
I've had an exact same set of symptoms on a T42. There was some corrosion on the board discovered when I ripped the machine apart.
Needless to say, I replaced the board.
Good luck.

Re: Recurring T60 power problem
Was the corrosion on the motherboard itself? If so, where and was this the "board" that you replaced?
I took my T60 apart (keyboard, bezel, fan/heatsink), but don't see anything obviously wrong.

It's been a while, but I believe that it was in far upper LH corner...JGA wrote:Was the corrosion on the motherboard itself? If so, where and was this the "board" that you replaced?
You might indeed be looking at a different issue. I just threw my two cents in...I took my T60 apart (keyboard, bezel, fan/heatsink), but don't see anything obviously wrong.

Re: Recurring T60 power problem
Hey there!
I had the same problems withm my T60....it could be caused by many different things. I would suggest you to try an other T61's screen on your computer (if you can do it for free). I had to change my screen with another T60's since then both computers are working fine....

I am facing the exact same issue as mentioned in the first post. I tried changing screen , check the board and I am still waiting for a solution....

Re: Recurring T60 power problem
Well, i checked the R2 fuse on my T60, it was OK. I took apart the whole computer, checked every fuse i could, and they were OK. I tried with another processor, other memory, new mobo battery, 3 different AC adaptors but the problem still existed. I used a multimeter to check the DC plug and it was OK too, but i didn't try to use a new one. I tried a docking station, where i had to use a different plug, but to actually change the one in my notebook that never happened. Maybe you could try that:S
The screen changing helped me, but I'm afraid the problem could come back anytime, so if you'll find another solution please share it with us. (change the whole mobo is not the solution, I mean yeah you could do that, but I would like to find a little bit cheaper way to use my notebook

Re: Recurring T60 power problem
Hey guys!
I found this page surfing on the net
http://mayohardware.blogspot.hu/2009/09 ... d-t40.html
I know this is a T40, and I know this requires some skills but I think this is the solution for our annoying problem!!
If any1 will try this could tell the results to us? Oh, and pls make a tutorial for T60 too, or atleast show on a picture where to find that MOSFET....
Cheers and good luck!
