How well do the Boe-Hydis UXGA panels age?

#1 Post by BruceDickinson » Fri Oct 05, 2012 4:48 pm

Can anyone comment or provide data :) as to how much the Boe-Hydis UXGA panels dim with age? I understand that each individual panel is different, but generally the BH UXGA dimming isn't too bad (and the yellowing is less than LG-Phillips SXGA+ panels).

The big picture is that I'd like to buy or build a 4:3 Flexview set-up without going crazy on expense, time or labor. Doing so would obviously be a lot easier and cheaper if the BH UXGA's remain pretty bright over time. (In that case, I might pick up a 15" T60 with Intel graphics and swap in a used BH UXGA panel.)

The new BH UXGA's from cgsplcd are expensive (A grade, 0.0.0 - 3.3.5, $178 with shipping). Meanwhile, new LG-Phillips SXGA+ panels are much cheaper, but I'm afraid of their reputation for yellowing.

All these considerations and compromises have me thinking that I should just cede the vertical space and move into the world of wide-screens :|

...& others

You may want to contact RealBlackStuff who can build you a custom T6x FrankenPad with a LED-lit AFFS Hydis panel that won't dim in foreseeable future. I'm having one installed in my trademark custom T43p this weekend, so yes, I'm putting my money where my mouth is...

To answer your questions: Hydis AFFS panels generally age well if properly taken care of. Some do get yellow, but presuming that the screen is kept in optimal conditions environmentally, they are far better in that respect than their LG counterparts...
