"t61, t9500 cpu, middleton bios"
ps i dont know about volting or anything like that - probably would not try it if i have to do that. i saw a 'throttle stop' thread but don't understand it really. i got the idea i can set it to 2.8ghz instead of 2.6ghz

Yes you can, you just have to use some utility to enable the additional multiplier, like ThrottleStop.

ok - i saw the thread but unfortunately did not understand all that
i have no clue what a multiplier is either - any chance someone could lay the steps out like in baby steps

That's a nice CPU you got there. Going from 2.6 to 2.8 is not that significantly faster. So until you learn more about software overclocking I'd just enjoy it for now. If on the other hand you are in the mood to do some experimenting, then go for it.

thanks. i found out sellers of these t9500 cpu's are desperate because people only search for t9300's! apparently a bad reputation for being over-priced. so you can ignore the asking price and make an offer same price as a t9300 and they will probably take it. hope this helps someone.
maybe i should not experiment, i was hoping it would be easy.
