As the title says, i'm looking for a link to a well priced Intel T9500 for a T61

Seriously dude you should be looking for a T9300 not a T9500. The price difference is definitely not worth it. The biggest performance upgrade for a T61 or any other machine is a SSD, then extra RAM. Both of which you will be doing. CPU upgrade is nice but not that noticeable because most people, myself included, will hardly ever tax a T7300. If you really really need that extra CPU power then consider a 3770K OCed desktop machine or a newer Sandybridge laptop.

Ok, fair enough, how about a link to a T9300 then people ???

Not enough room in the house for a desktop unfortunately OR i would build the ultimate gaming machine.

I can get both the T9300 and T9500, they will cost slightly more then the cheaper ebay sellers, but the difference is I get the chips from the best machines that come into liquidation from corporations selected from thousands of laptops. the rest go to brokers and most are sold as complete systems, the ones that are broken or abuse end up getting parted out, so this is where most ebay chips come from. Some people feel a chip is good or bad, nothing in between, and these intel chips can tolerate a lot of abuse, but with over 400million transistors, you'd have to fry a lot of them before the chip stopped working and they obviously designed them to be able to compensate for a moderate number of failures. Another thing you should do before buying is look at the sellers feedback, don't stop when you see 99.7% positive, look at the neg one, and the neutral, you'll probably see a lot of comments like "the chip worked after I spend a couple hours straightening pins"... many sellers like to promote with free shipping, then they ship them in an envelope. If you must buy a cheap chip this way, insist on rigid packaging even if you have to pay extra.

As for which chip to choose, the T9300 and T9500 are built on the same die, both with 6mb of cache, the only difference is 2.5 vs 2.6ghz. Last I checked I can get these for about $70 and $117. Although there is a big gap in price, it wasn't long ago that the T9500 cost twice as much as the T9300, and there is no question which is the better buy, but that doesn't stop me from having the T9500 in a couple of my systems. It really boils down to how important the computer is to you. If it's a serious hobby for you then you might want the best, but if budget is a concern, as it seems to be for you, then get the T9300, in most cases you probably won't know the difference.

Right now, fook budget for certain parts, if i can get a T9500 for my rig, i will, because what is the point in thinking in a month or so time, when all my mates have a minimum of i5, SHOOT i wanna upgrade when i've already UPGRADED to T9300 !!!

That's why i wanna put the best in, trying to beat never mind keep up, with my buddies

If, when deciding between a T9300 and T9500, you find yourself thinking "I can afford it", stop, and consider whether a T4xx/T5xx is also affordable.

There's something to be said for maxing out a machine as far as possible, but, at the end, you may find the costs incurred might have afforded you something else that exceeded what you end up with.

Just something to think about.

BTW, I went with a T9300.

Maxing out a T61 would equal a X9000 CPU in my book...

In that case, I think I'd recommend the Kidde UltraBay smoke detector option.

lol. Out in the bush (swamps) here, we kinda think along the lines of 30-06 or 308, with a 12 GA backup. We don't just have alligators, we have big bears too.

When I need something with more punch then a smith n wesson 500 (which will take out a big bear), I can always break out my arm a lite AR30 in 338 Lapua, it will put a 30-06 or .308 to shame, or if that won't do, my LAR Grizzly chambered in .50BMG is based on a WW1 anti tank round and is still widely used by the military to take out airplanes, ground assault vehicles, light armored vehicles, etc... I imagine if you could get a dozen bears to stand in a line, you could blow a hole right through them with one shot... using the right ammo of course.

By the way, to any animal lovers present... they have nothing to fear from me, I only use mine to punch holes in pieces of paper. It's really great fun... hole punching that is, it's no fun when you do it with a handheld $5 tool from walmart, but "hole punching" at 500meters is a blast and I'm not really against hunting either, but I'd have to be hungry to want to kill an animal, I prefer them when they are breathing, especially the biggest and strongest which have been selected by nature to pass on their genes, not to be taken as a trophy, but to each, their own.... and sorry for going so far off topic lol
