t61 battery irreparable damage

#1 Post by Pawelek » Fri Nov 16, 2012 3:15 pm

Hi,

Yesterday when my t61 was on battery suddenly turned off. I couldnt start it without AC adaptor. When it turned on the battery indicator was blinking yellow and Power Manager gave info about battery irreparlable damage (16% on power gauge and no charging). Can anyone tell what happened? Shall I only buy new battery and move on, or I should have my t61 checked regarding power circuits/socket on motheboard. Help me please :(

In most cases there was a dangerous condition detected and the control board shut it self down to prevent overheating and/or fire. If this is the case, you'll need a new battery.

Until yesterday, usps prohibited shipping batteries outside the usa, but it is now allowed, if you'd like a used battery, I have them ranging from $20-50 depending on remaining capacity and shipping to poland would be $17 for 1-3 batteries.

Hi Tuus, thank you for your offer. Despite the prices arent big still I can get new battery with 1 yeary warranty (not original of course) here in Poland for ca 150-160 PLN inc shipping (it is +/- $50). According to the power socket on MB I've found this post on official lenovo forum:

"fried my battery too, it wouldn't hold any charge at all. It turned out that the power adaptor/socket inside the lap top was damaged or failed which meant the battery was charging then de-charging very quickly and soon the change in e-m fields totally fried it. I ended up having the socket replaced, a new battery and AC charger...:mansad:

so look after your socket and battery! cost me plenty to get it fixed".

Dont know what to think about that :?:

be careful buying generic batteries, I can get the fake ones smuggled out of china for $10-20 brand new, but they have been known to catch on fire, not only destroy your computer but take the entire building with them. A real generic battery cost $30-40 new, meaning one that was properly exported and approved by safety organizations like RoHS and UL Labs, but the Genuine batteries cost about $179 new, sometimes you can get them for about $90.

As for that message you quoted, it doesn't make much sense. If your DC jack is bad you'd know it, the laptop usually beeps when going form AC to battery power, but if you want a new power jack I have them for $3
