Looking for T60 battery buying tips

#1 Post by Morten » Mon Nov 26, 2012 5:35 pm

I'm looking for fresh batteries for a couple of T60's. Would love any helpful tips!

So far I've looked at ebay for genuine batteries, and was somewhat surprised to find this for only $35 from ebay seller cmp-batteryshop who has good feedback scores.
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/251177189112?ssP ... 1439.l2649

The auction claims this is a "genuine original" battery for T60, part number 92P1114 FRU 92P1131.

Does anyone have experience with these?

How about after using them a while - does it still hold a charge after 6 or 12 months of ues?

Is it reasonable to think they are the genuine article?

If not, how can I tell these apart from the real thing? I mean, those labels looks pretty legit to my inexperienced eye and if they are not I'd hate to buy them used on ebay..

I've had a couple of noname generic (not claimed to be genuine) T40-series batteries from china before. They lasted about 6 months after which time they would no longer hold a charge.

Thanks,
Morten

No ... the original 6-cell T60 battery is 5200 mAh ... not 4530 mAh.

You could ask the seller what brand of cells are used inside the battery (they should be Panasonic, Sony, Sanyo) ... but they probably won't know.

I can't be 100% sure, but it looks like a typical blackmarket battery to me. Keep in mind that if a manufacturer is going to fake a lenovo logo, then they definitely aren't going to submit them for inspection by the governing bodies that assure they meet all safety requirements. A well faked genuine lenovo battery is worth far less then a cheap generic, at least the generic is produced legally, and you can get them for about $30-40.

As for that sellers feedback, there is some feedback claiming they are selling fake batteries, but I'm not going to consider that conclusive, just consider that it will cost you about $17 to return it to china if it's not what it claims to be

At that price absolutely not.

How about this one:
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Original-Battery ... 25701e44f7

Same story except 5200mAh and $47.99.

And again, if it's not, how would one tell this apart from the real thing? I mean, looking for used genuine batteries is an option, but I fear some people may have come in possession of one of these without knowing it's origin.

If these are not the real thing then I'd really like to know how to tell them apart.

Also, I'm still looking for tips on purchasing reasonably priced genuine battery or really good quality aftermarket ones.

1) Avoid any and all feebay sellers based in China and Hong Kong

2) Post a WTB (want to buy) ad in the Forum's Marketplace

So how about this then
http://www.ebay.ca/itm/new-IBM-Genuine- ... 41656d2534

They are based in the US, and they charge a little more - $69.98 - but is the product any different?

I wouldn't know since I've never bought anything from them...

With that said, if I were looking to spend $70, this forum and Lenovo's Outlet would be the only sources I'd ever consider.

Good luck.
