T60 dead? (one long beep, two short beeps)

#1 Post by yup » Wed Nov 28, 2012 10:01 am

T60: one long beep, two short beeps, no response from the monitor, that is what I get when I turn on the computer.

wiki: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/detail. ... MIGR-42321
gives me this:
  • System board failure
    Video adapter problem
    LCD assembly failure
how do I know which one. how thoroughly am I screwed?

thanks

p.s. - technical stuff:
I have tried playing with the ram, no help.
the fan is working
did get it on once for about 2 minutes and then this happened again

other symptoms: power button does nothing. some times
usually power button does nothing but lite batt light for a second the first time, and then the second time I press it it tries to go on but beep instead and stays on (though doing nothing, I know its one because the top light goes on (the one you turn on with fn)

thanks

This is almost always a system board problem. The code for one long beep and two short is usually a graphics problem which is part of the system board. I've never seen an LCD cause this code, it might be technically possible, but I think you can safely discount that possibility.

The good news is you can get a board very cheap here in the forum, from sellers like ajkula66, realblackstuff, or myself. Any one of us would be glad to help you.

Thanks!

how hard is it to replace the borad? how many hours will it take and can I wreck the coputer in the process?
I am accostumed to taking off the keyboard, mouse and fan for regular maintnence or switching the CPU but I have never gone beyond that.

you can send me and invoice to yup231@gmail.com, though in the meatime i bought a SL500 second hand for 250$ because I cant be without a computer, especially if I am waiting for parts from e-bay.

thanks

It always helps enormously if you tell us WHICH laptop you are talking about.
What is the 7-character TYPE on the label on the bottom of the laptop?
Looks like TYPE 2007-46U or 1952-44U.
If is is a TYPE xxxx-CTO you also need to give us the PRODUCT ID under it.
Lovely day for a Guinness! (The Real Black Stuff)
