Experience with SSD on T61?
Experience with SSD on T61?
Can anyone advise me on upgrading my T61 to an SSD? I saw a post on the T4x on this subject. I don't need but maybe a 20gb drive. Good vendors?
Re: Experience with SSD on T61?
The question you ask has really (really, really!) been extensively discussed e.g. on this forum, so I kindly suggest that you carry out a little search on your own, before asking such - very general - questions. You will most likely be able to very easily (and very fast, too!) find the information you need at this stage, on your own.
Try e.g. use Google search for "T61 SSD upgrade site:forum.thinkpads.com" (also try search for T60 SSD etc.), or simply try browse through the thread subjects in a couple of pages of this (T6x) conference.
I am sure that if following the above suggestion you will find much useful information in a very short time.

As for the brand, volume of SSD, I have no idea. But I'd like to remind you that you must use a crack BIOS to activate SATA II of T61. The official BIOS has block the STAT II.
If you don't have this BIOS, you can send an email to me (brick43@126.com). I'm willing to share with you because I have just flashed this cracked BIOS.

Middleton's BIOS has been around for a couple of years now, and many of us have used it with no issues whatsoever.

Can I (should I?) use that (or some other) BIOS on my T60 before installing my new Intel 520 120GB SSD? I am late to the SSD party, but better late than never.ajkula66 wrote:

Re: Experience with SSD on T61?
Do you know the success rate on flashing the "Middleton" BIOS back to a previous Lenovo Thinkpad "approved" version?
Có một ngày tuyệt vời!
Re: Experience with SSD on T61?
does not have a problem with that.Bánh mì wrote:Do you know the success rate on flashing the "Middleton" BIOS back to a previous Lenovo Thinkpad "approved" version?
but why would you ever want to use the lenovo version when the Middleton BIOS is with times better ? ... and I mean with TIMES .. LOL.
it's like buying a top notch AMG Mercedes that is limited to 155 MPH top speed from the factory, and them someone comes and removes the limit so that you can use the cars full potential to reach 200 MPH ... heh.

Re: Experience with SSD on T61?
My apologies for bumping old thread ..
I'd like to share my experience on using Samsung 840 ssd (250GB) on my 14.1" wide T61
Samsung 840 ssd really rocks my T61, the performance, the power consumption are amazed me .. I'm very satisfied for my purchase and I also would like to thank you to Mr. Donald aka TuuS for all his help on sending the ssd to Indonesia
So, let's go to the point :
My T61 setup : 14.1" wide, T9500, 4GB DDR2 RAM, 9-cell battery (79% capacity, bought from TuuS )
1. AS SSD scores
2. Idle power consumption
3. Idle power consumption
So with 3 batteries (two 9-cell batteries with similar capacity and one 6-cell battery with 90% capacity ), I can use my T61 for at least 12 hours discharging ...
The SSD is not as fast as 840 pro 256GB version, but overall I'm pleased with this SSD
