About a month ago I ordered myself a T61 on Ebay. It has the GM965 Graphics card, 3gb ram (upgraded myself) and a T7250. Powerful enough. Screen Resolution is 1280x800.

The one I ordered for my parents on EBay arrived today. It's a 2.2 GHz Core2 Duo, Discrete Quadro Card (not sure which one - anyone know), bluetooth and also 3gb of RAM. It also has a 1440x900 screen. While it's crisp, that is going to cause problems with my parents...

The power adapter didn't work, so while I'm waiting for a replacement I'm wondering ...

Can I swap the screen onto my 7661? Reason being - I really don't need the discrete card. I'm assuming it's going to cost me some battery life?

Should I just keep them as is and give the one with the intel integrated card to my parents?

Your second T61 with the higher rez screen has the nVIDIA Quadro NVS 140M GPU, which unless it was manufactured during Aug. 2008 or after, probably has the defective GPU chip.

If you want to go to the trouble, you can fairly easily swap lids between the two machines. My T61 is a blend of parts from different machines and has the Intel GPU and the 1440x900 screen. Works fine.

Hmmm ... I can't get rid of those darn chips! My Dell has one but it made it 5 years under hard gaming and such (to the point that it really couldn't do games any more :( .. .screen died)

The dell did have a dedicated heat sync for the GPU.

I think I may just do a monitor swap and not a whole computer swap ... the Quadro powered laptop only gets 2 hours of battery life on the 9 cell, my intel card laptop gets 5!!!!

Didn't realize they were that much of a power hog
