T60 X1400 - How can I get PowerPlay working in W7?

#1 Post by Morten » Sun Jan 06, 2013 9:30 pm

Hi,

I'm kind of a newbie at this whole T60 thing. I'd like to quiet mine down a little bit, I already have TPFanControl and it has helped, but I understand PowerPlay can help more, and I don't think I have it with the Windows Update driver. I'm using Windows 7 32-bit.

Any help appreciated. I'll take advice on undervolting the CPU as well - should I go for RMClock or would I be better off with something else?

Thanks,
Morten

You have to use MobilityModder modified Catalyst drivers. Here's a topic for T60p, but thore drivers should work on X1400 also: http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... ility+t60p

That way you will have CCC and you can enable PowerPlay.

Thanks RacerBoy - but in that thread you said you use the windows update drivers yourself - have you tried the 10.2 drivers with mobility modder?

The reason I ask is I found another thread with some negative experiences.
http://forum.thinkpads.com/viewtopic.ph ... 88&start=0
Of note is the last postfrom tgr, bringing up these issues:
- BSOD problems when trying to skip position in full-screen youtube playback (reportedly all versions from 9.3 to 10.2).
- "10.2 works with 2D, but crashes after a few minutes with 3D ("Display driver stopped responding and has recovered")."

That thread was raised in relation to 64-bit win7 - does anyone know if this also affects 32-bit systems? I'd love to hear from anyone actually running these drivers. And please, humor me and try skipping playback position while in youtube fullscreen playback with default acceleration enabled.

Hmmm, would it be more kosher for me to simply ask in that other semi-old thread? Would it be appropriate to ask both places or would that be double-posting? Still new to this forum. Thanks!

I used the 10.2 Mobility Modder drivers after that for testing on my T60p and found them to be very good, having Catalyst Control Center and such, also having slightly better framerates on games. No downsides whatsoever for me and they were 100% stable, I used 32bit W7 (no point using 64bit on T60/p with only 3GB of RAM).
