Iam trying to add more memory and came across a few models, machine type is 7661-FG5, I came across pc3-8500 and pc2-5300 both came up for t61. Can someone guide on which type to get or best for this machine, without paying for something that wont allow me to use to its full capacity due to the laptops limitations.
Also whats the max Ram that can be installed, 4 or 8gb, does have a 64-bit win7 installed.
Thanks again for the support

AFAIK T61's take DDR2 and more specifically, as you mentioned, PC2-5300.
Here is for the max RAM

DDR3 RAM won't work.
You can use DDR2-667 (PC2-5300) or DDR2-800 (PC2-6400), the latter is sometimes cheaper. I have a T61 and an X61s using DDR2-800 with no problems.

Thank you much guys. I just purchased a t410 and want to salvage the t61 and bring it up to shape before passing passing it down to family.
figured ill bring it up to 4gb of ram and might even test an SSD laying around to see what difference it makes.
Thank you again.
Cheers.
