open source drivers for mobility firegl v5250 under linux

sooner or later i am planning to throw out any windows from my t60p machine because when using the advanced dock+radeon hd 6570 windows seems to be extremely slow sometimes, as in general lag when drawing windows elements, most often when switching windows.
luckily 3d is not affected by such lags, it basically has some minor lag due to the 1x pcie, but that part is tolerable.

now i would like to sometimes use the machine without the docking station if i install linux.
last time i installed linux on it, it was an opensuse, and i used the fglrx drivers, and it fried the SXGA+ monitor after the first reboot.
had to install an XGA monitor to get it to work.
now i would not like to risk it again so if i cant get the open source drivers to work, i wont use 3d at all

the list at freedesktop (http://dri.freedesktop.org/wiki/ATIRade ... Chipset%29) does not list ANY mobility firegl (and for my series, it lists only the 5200)
my question is that has anybody managed to get a mobility firegl work under linux with the open source drivers?
