Is nvidia bios integrated with MB bios?

#1 Post by Lockheed » Tue Feb 19, 2013 6:37 am

I I have a Quadro card in my laptop and am thinking of editing nvidia bios to use lover voltages. The question is whether those nvidia cards use bioses integrated into motherboard bios, or is it separate as in desktops with AGP graphic cards?

The GPU has its own settings outside of the BIOS.
You can use RivaTuner or RMClock to overclock and/or undervolt CPU and/or GPU.

I don't really use windows, but out of curiosity - do those programs actually allow you to undervolt the GPU?

You can underclock but not undervolt AFAIK when it comes to these...

I believe that there's a hardware mod by forum member Binh that addresses the undervolting...

Are we still talking about GPU undervolting, and not CPU undervolting?

I used to have some old programs like Nibitor, that allowed to temporary load test video bios without actually flashing it.
Does anyone know anything about it?

Yes.

I've never heard about that program, which doesn't mean a thing. Why don't you test it on your Quadro and check what it does for you?

It is possible to undervolt the nvidia GPU on T61 but only with hardware mod. Binh did this and he has precise how-to also, search this forum.

It lowers the temps quite a bit and I can confirm that this mod works as I did this myself on two NVS140M machines. Tried it on my FX570M machine also but it was not stable (570M requires more juice).

Thanks. That is indeed very useful info.

On a related note - where can I get schematics for ThinkPads? I'd like to know where to find resistors the mod is talking about, but visual inspection of the board didn't work too well.

Schematics are proprietary material from IBM/Lenovo, and are unfortunately not available to the public (normally).
But there's a guy on eBay that sells them: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Laptop-Motherbo ... 0595054957
