My 14" widescreen T61 (7658-03u) has the Expresscard/PCCard slot, not the built-in media card reader.

I've finally come to the point that I need to be able to read SDHC cards occasionally, and I've found that convenient MFP's often don't read higher density memory.

I'd prefer to install a hardwired Lenovo part that's cosmetically-correct, i.e. the 4-in-1 reader 42X3831(?), but I have a greater desire to have something that works well and supports 16-32GB memory cards, and potentially SDXC, under Windows 7.

Is there an expresscard, PCCard, or other assembly that's known to behave well?

That is a very nice high quality adapter that rumbero recommended. I have one and recommend it wholeheartedly.

There are cheaper options, such as this, but the performance is slightly lower and it's not as flush.

I tried them both, and they both read SDHC well. Not sure about SDXC, cause I haven't tried. However, the Wikipedia page suggests that SDXC should be backwards compatible with SDHC readers, and in any case anything under 32GB should be SDHC.

Oh, there are also ExpressCard adapters that read SDHC, such as this multi-reader, which I have, and this slightly cheaper SDHC-only reader. They appear to be even cheaper that the Cardbus options, and performance should be on par (I think rumbero's suggestion is still faster). However, personally I'd rather not use the ExpressCard slot for this, since it can be used for something more performance-oriented (e.g., USB3, eSATA).

About the Lenovo built-in reader - 42X3831 - does it not read SDHC? If it does, it may be the most elegant option, provided that you are willing to give up the ExpressCard slot. Not sure about its performance.

I got one from a friend (because his new laptop didn't have an ExpressCard slot),I thinkthe brand is Transcend (i think theres only one model) or something like that. It works with SDXC and drivers are available for Windows + Linux.

It's even got a nice rainbow design on the sticker.

Sandisk SDAD111 Expresscard adapter.

It takes about eight days to arrive from Hong Kong in a very small envelope, but works seamlessly under Windows 7 Ultimate 32, so far with cards as large as 16GB.

My only lament is that it swallows the SDHC whole, so removal effectively requires ejecting the Expresscard.
