Well I connected it up and the lamp is glowing a definite shade of pink. I'm assuming from what's been said about these lamps that they should be white.

Can someone please confirm that. Thanks.

OK, found it here. http://www.sanken-ele.co.jp/prod/librar ... l04ec0.pdf -- on page 11. All I'll ever need to know about mercury depleted ccfls at the end of their life.

Confirmed. Pink means it's on it's last leg.

I ordered my new lamp from the Ebay link below on Thursday morning(14th). It arrived this morning (saturday), Free post.
Installed and working. I'm quite pleased.

Here's where I bought it.
New CCFL 290mm x 2mm backlight with wires. £8.90 including postage to the UK. Shipped from Nottingham UK.
Ebay item number 251230370680
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/251230370680? ... 26_rdc%3D1

One thing though I confess, I have a slightly bright spot along an couple of inches of the bottom of screen, in the centre portion, just where the windows task bar sits. I suspect it has to do with the tightness of the screen frame at this point. The screen frame is clamped by screws at the corners, but only by that silver tape along the centre. I think I need to renew the sticky tape.

Also, the wires on the replacement lamp are a longer than the originals. I read that in order to keep the volt drop to a minimum, the wires should be short. Should I shorten them?

Should I or anybody need a new screen these people seem pretty good.
NEW LCD Matte screen. 14.1 Genuine FRU 13n7051/Samsung LTN141XA-L01. £64.85. Free postage to UK. Postaged from Ipswitch UK.
Ebay item number 280528051220
They sent me pictures of the rear of the screen, showing the FRU and Samsung partnumbers, exactly the same as my own screen, and gaurantee that is what I will get. So if they send a compatible, I can get all my money back from Ebay, because I could prove they lied. But I'm sure they are genuine. They are very helpful. Actually on looking at their website, they don't list the 1400x900 by FRU, but I do recall them saying they could get it if I wanted it.

And for an inverter, if I need one later.
Inverter. 41W1010 BRAND NEW. Hongkong company. I'll buy(might) one of these if my lamp doesn't fix the problem. -- Or I'll buy the screen,
They've sent me pictures of genuine IBM inverters, and gaurantee that is what I will get. Price £13.60 including postage to the UK.
Ebay item number 390553752563
http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/390553752563? ... 1438.l2649

All in all, I'm glad I did this, and would have no hesitation in doing it again. Maybe even converting to LED in the future, just for the hell of it. :)

Thanks for the helpful tips everybody.

From their feebay listing (for the LCD):

We may ship a 100% compatible part.

At that price, you've got to be kidding me.

Once again, your quids, your call.

Yup it says "We may ship a 100% compatible part." Not, we will.

I've spoken with them on the blower, and they sent me a pic of the exact screen I would get if I ordered. On the back are exactly the same numbers as on mine. FRU 13N7051 and LTN141XA-L01. I reckon 64 quid for a new genuine lenovo/ibm screen isn't too bad.

But at the moment, my new lamp is performing, so I don't think I need one.

No idea about that seller, but I do know that many panels from china have been reflashed with lenovo firmware and fake lenovo fru stickers added. If they started with a grade 1 screen when doing this then it should be good regardless of it being genuine or not, but if they get grade 2 (or worse) screens then it's not a good deal as they generally have at least one bad pixel.

In this case they are selling an XGA screen, generally there is little demand for these, many people (myself included) remove perfectly good ones and sell them cheap. The last few I sold went for $10-30 (6-20gbp), but I understand things sell higher over there so perhaps their price isn't unreasonable.

Regarding your bright spots on your screen after replacing your backlight, this is common, it's hard to get a perfect fit, especially since your bulb probably wasn't designed by the manufacturer specifically for that screen.

Thanks Tuus. That could explain it then. But anyway, as it's only on the task bar it doesn't really bother me. After over a days use now, I don't notice it anymore.

Maybe your right about the screens too. I bought my T60 new in the Philippines, from a Hongkong trader in 2008 for a knock down price. The whole thing seems to have been made in china anyway. As long as it works though, I don't mind where the bits come from :) esp if they are cheap.

Your also right about screen prices. I found quite a few new ones advertised in the US for much less than they are here, but the shipping kills it.
