T60 Boot Failure

#1 Post by Bruce Guttman » Sat Mar 09, 2013 5:16 pm

I just got a T60 (2623-KFU) that has a T7200 CPU, SXGA+, 2 GB RAM, 3945 WiFi and 5720 WWAN (among other things, no hard drive and no battery). When I plug it into the AC brick the "plug" light goes on. When I press Start the whole thing goes blank.

I tried removing the CMOS battery, no regular battery, and no AC and pressed Start several times ending in a 30 second press. No different.

I tried a new keyboard. Same response.

I put in a different CPU (T2300?) that was working in another T-60. Doesn't work.

I put the CPU in a different T-60. Seems to work OK.
I put the memory in a different T-60. Seems to work OK.
I put the fan in a different T-60. Fan error. It won't turn easily (no biggie; these seem to be fixable).
I put the optical drive in a different T-60. It seems to work.

So now I want to see if I can rehab this beast. I suspect a power fuse failure. Is there a list of fuses similar to the T4x diagram that Nick put up?

Meanwhile I think I have a recipient for some of the parts. I have a T-60 Model 2007 into which I can put the WWAN (including a display transplant and the bezel with antenna) and the T7200 CPU. Of course I'm downgrading the video from X1400 to X1300 but otherwise it seems to be pretty similar.

Will the upgrade of the 2007 with the 2623 parts work? Seems like it should.

Any suggestions are appreciated.

The T7600 is supported on the T60 only on BIOS 2.x and higher, so make certain the BIOS is updated before you insert the new processor.

Thanks for the warning. Looks like the 2007-C3U is at 2.26, so I'm set there.

I just hope the display with the WWAN antenna works. That could be almost a deal breaker.

You need a board that supports WWAN. Not all of the T60 ones do.

Well, my upgrade failed.

The T7200 CPU works fine in the 2007. It already has 3 Gig of RAM, so I didn't need the RAM modules.

But the WWAN socket is missing.

So if I want WWAN I need to find a board with a WWAN socket or fix the one I have.

The search continues...
