T60p + Samsung 830 SSD questions

Been running a Samsung 830 SSD with a fresh install of Win7 x64 since last summer. Works great - no regrets.

Couple times a week the system freezes up solid and the HD indicator stays lit - usually while browsing and IE partially loads a page - then I need to hard power cycle and re-input passwords for forums such as this one. Not sure if that's a software thing or an SSD thing.

Did a bit of maintenance today and noticed a new version 4 of the Samsung Magician utility, which I installed. I chose the "high performance" default settings. Not clear to me if I currently have Over Provisioning setup, or if I should click the button on that feature? Is there a significant risk to the data??

Until I figure out the Over Provisioning button, I'm leaving that alone.

Some good news....no new "HD indicator on, system frozen" episodes since I updated to Magician v4 and applied its defaults.

Well, the problem never really was solved or understood and I just lived with it.

I'm on the beta program for a drive manufacturer and test lots of system drives on this setup after cloning the contents. Testing can sometimes go for a couple of months. Only the Samsung 830 gave these occasional system lockups. The other drives were free of the issue.

I lost patience (3yrs ha!) with the 830 and changed to a new Samsung 850 PRO. Working great about 1wk in. Not like this old TP can fully utilize it, but the 850 feels snappier than the 4yr old 830 it replaced. Keeping fingers crossed...

Don't know that Samsung overprovisioning button (never used Magician), but check the free/unformatted portion of that drive.
There should be at least 10-15% unoccupied on each drive for overprovisioning.
