Since discovering this forum and the world of frankenpadding, I have built myself a 15" T60. SXGA+ screen, intel graphics, T7300, 4gigs of ram, SSD. Nothing amazing, but I love the screen resolution and aspect ratio. Yesterday, I was using the laptop for some light web surfing, when I got some screen artifacts, I decided to reboot, and all I heard was a very quiet high pitched "coil whine" no lights or anything else. When I plug it in, i dont get any charging lights. I know the motherboard is dead, but has anyone had an incident simmilar to this? I have yet to open up the laptop and look around. Tonight I will swap the original T60 motherboard in, and report back.

To me, this sounds like a capacitor that got unsoldered somewhere - that's the "whine" part.

However, the corrupt graphics image - on an Intel board no less - might have a whole different culprit...

Good luck.

I just got it all apart. There was liquid damage everywhere. About a month ago, It got red bull spilled on it while it was closed. I wiped it off immediately, and didn't think anything of it, but it appears a fair amount seeped in through the display cable opening. It's pretty bad, I'm surprized it worked for this long considering I use it for at least 6 hours a day. I feel like an idiot. I'm going to clean everything up, and re-install the original T60 motherboard.
