t60 with strange charging problem

Morning folks, cliff notes, sometimes it charges sometimes it doesn't. I've tried different battery and different chargers and can't predict what will happen. At first I noticed that the battery was at 8% when I started up machine and it was not charging. I swapped battery and it brought battery to 51% and stopped charging. Power Manager shows 0 current draw when on the charger and battery stays at constant charge level. The charger stays cool and the system tray indicates that it is connected to power source.

PS. Swap battery again and replacement starts charging at 2.75A, what gives

In order to proceed you really need to independently test each part, if your battery and ac adapter are good, then your laptop isn't and the next test I'd do is see if it will charge when powered off. If the hardware is functioning properly all you need to do is connect power and it will charge the battery, if it doesn't, you probably need a new motherboard, but check everything else first.
If you do need a new motherboard I have some well tested top of the line t60p boards for a very reasonable price, or you can also talk to members ajkula66 or realblackstuff, both of whom could also provide you with a good deal on such a board. There is also the option to upgrade the board to a T61 board which will allow for upto 8gb of ram instead of 3gb, faster cpu chips (cheaper too), faster harddrive speed and better graphic options.
ps. If you have no way to test your battery and ac adapter I could test them for you, assuming it's a genuine lenovo battery and adapter.

TuuS, just a few more details both batteries I've used were Lenovo 9 cell units and power manager says they are in good condition, both chargers were factory also. I've tried to eliminate chargers and batteries by swapping back and forth and I would have to say it's a laptop thing, but right this minute it is working normally, I think I have to agree with you that it is in the charging circuit/battery condition sensing circuit. When and if it happens again I think I will just remove the battery and reinstall and see it that gets it charging again.

Next time this happens try removing ac power and battery then cycle the power button ten times holding a few seconds each, then 30 seconds on the last. This will drain any static charge so you can more or less reboot the hardware. Sometimes this will help, but it does sound like your system board is failing.

TuuS, I'll give that a try, still working normally now, who knows. It was a tested *bay motherboard that I only paid $33. But I really don't want to put an MB in a T60 again, T43 piece of cake, T60 so many pieces
