T60 RAM. How much is needed?

I just picked up a T60 1.5gb RAM.

Has Win7 on it too. Good deal for a laptop.

I plan on upgrading it to SSD.

Intended uses: websurfing, word processing using libreoffice, web design, light CAD work.

I hear T60's go up to 3gb RAM.

I don't see 3GB RAM for sale, except in used machines.

Stick with 1.5? If upgrading, where are sources?

You can post a WTB (want to buy) ad in the forum's Marketplace section.

Replace the 512MB DIMM with a 2GB one and you're all set.

Same here, I recently bought a T60 with 1Gb RAM. I have upgraded to SSD and at the same time, to 3Gb RAM. I would encourage you to go to 3Gb RAM for Win7 if using SSD. I have found that 3Gb is enough to allow me to turn off swapping, which is a good idea if you can - SSDs don't like being used as page/swap devices.

In practice I boot Linux Mint more often than Win7, and that is more than happy in 3Gb with no linux swap file, too.
