So I Scored a T61 6465-CTO for $115

It doesn't come with a hard drive or ac adapter though.

I'm new to thinkpads & laptops in general, so I have some questions I've been researching.

Should I buy a SATA I, SATA II, or SATA III HDD & SSD?

I don't really know what the best laptop SSDs & HDDs are and I don't know if I should be looking for SATA I, II, or III. In terms of storage, I'm not looking for more than 30gb-64gb for the SSD & no more than 320gb for the HDD is necessary.

The seller wouldn't tell me what the screen resolution was, so I'm assuming 1280x800 or he couldn't figure out how to check it without having an OS on there. If I want to replace it with a larger resolution screen, do I need to buy one exactly for the T61 or can it be any 1680x1050 15.4" LCD?

If you're using Windows Vista or forward, I suggest getting at least a 60GB SSD. I don't think SATA I, II or III really matters much. The real benefit of a SSD is the latency, how fast data can found and read, which won't change much going from SATA I to II or III.

They certainly make compatible screens that will fit work with your T61, but I'd suggest getting a genuine Lenovo part. Third party parts are usually as good in my experience.

can the original author of this thread please contact me? I'm pretty sure this is my laptop. it was stolen from my apartment in August 2011. I'm not sure what to do at this point. I saw that you bought the laptop from ebay. I'd like that sellers contact information. I'm wondering if I can track down where the theif originally sold the machine. I know the thiefs first and last name. he also stole a MacBook Pro and a droid 2 phone. I would love to track this guy down. he stole enough from me to warrant grand theft.

please contact me. seanmoore1976@ gmail dot com.

the thiefs name is: <removed by admin>. he stole the items mentioned above from my apartment in August 2011 in Pacific Beach, San Diego CA.

Admin edit: Removed name of purported thief.

Beautiful machine!! Scored well, especially with 4GB of ram!
In my opinion SSD's are the way to go with laptops, they offer better performance and since laptops are mobile, you have less worries about ruining the HDD if you drop it.

Happy Thinkpadding!
