T61 Bluetooth

#1 Post by Bruce Guttman » Wed May 01, 2013 10:32 am

I did a search and couldn't find the answer to my question.

I have a T61 8892-02U that I am trying to build up. When I loaded Windows 7 on it, no Bluetooth drivers were loaded. When I press Fn-F5 the Bluetooth light does not come on. I tried loading the Bluetooth driver and the software said that there was no Bluetooth there. The specs for this model say it includes Bluetooth and there is an indicator in the display window.

I'm looking for some things to try before I pull the bezel to have a look.

First I will try Ubuntu (I have 12.04 CD) and see if it finds it.

After that what to try?

Don't know exactly where but in BIOS, there is an option to turn off/on Bluetooth. Obviously make sure they are ON
Other than that, maybe Bluetooth dongle is not there?

I bought several T61 where original spec confirms Bluetooth but was not there when opened.
Price you pay when you buy from eBay

Yeah, I forgot to mention it but I had checked in BIOS to make sure Bluetooth was on.

Guess I'm gonna have to do some surgery.

All T61 machines have an LCD cable with Bluetooth connector.
The BT module (if present) is placed inside the lid.

I started up Ubuntu 11.10 and the Bluetooth light lit. So it's there.

Then I started up Windows 7 and the Bluetooth light lit. And the software tried to load the drivers I had installed.

Everything went in except for something called RFCOMM Protocol TDI.

Where do I find this?

Hi,

I don't know if this has any relevance to your post or not but I have had the same problem. My T61 was running XP Pro from a factory preload without any problems, all devices including bluetooth working fine. I decided to try windows 7 from a retail install disk, everything installed fine except 2 unknown devices. One turned out to be the power management module and the other was the bluetooth unit. On downloading the necessary drivers from Lenovo, the power management module activated OK, but I had exactly the same issue as you - i.e. "no bluetooth device found, drivers not loaded". At the moment I'm living without it, but would like to know the cause myself. Living in hopes. :(

If you haven’t tried this already – do the Fn +F5 combo and see if the BT radio is turned off.
Did a clean T60 install today and got the "no bluetooth device found, drivers not loaded" message when installing the BT driver.
Turned on the BT radio with Fn +F5 and the drivers installed.

Fn-F5 isn't turning the Bluetooth on or off. Even after the Ubuntu trick.

I used to know where to set that, but I couldn't find it in the Bluetooth driver or in BIOS.
