Thinkpad T60

Firstly, thanks for stopping by and hopefully not wasting your precious time! I got this laptop from a buddy of mine and would like to use it. I have a good working 90 watt AC adapter, plugged it into the ac adapter jack on the thinkpad with battery and the battery and ac adapter indicator lights are lit. Press the power on, all lights go out. Took memory and battery out, pressed the power button, same thing happens, all indicator lights go out, no beeps, burps, or chirps of any kind. No reaction.

Now I've combed through about 8 pages of the t6x forum, usually one can do a search string in particular forums directly to the forum, however, either I don't know the proper search string to search or no one's come across this particular situation.

My questions are:
1) Is there a T60 diagnostic procedure doc, txt, pdf of sorts in an archive (where its location is unbeknownst to me)
2) What's it mean when the laptop doesnt beep without memory? certain amounts of beeps indicates? is there a legend or beep chart?
3) Is the inverter a candidate for this symptom?

Please advise with your knowledge and experiences.

I'm a student and want a better computer than my t40. Thank you in advance, even for just reading this!

Ken

EDIT
fully charged 9 cell introduced
removed cmos battery
plugged in keyboard
light indicators all power up (better than before)
beeps now too (1,123,123,1) (what's this mean?) (needs memory) I put memory in and it loaded!

thanks y'all!

I got it to boot!!!! yayer!!!!

bad bottom half of LCD....greyed out vertical lines?

No.

The board that doesn't beep when the RAM is removed is most likely dead.
3) Is the inverter a candidate for this symptom?
No.

Chances are that you'll have to swap the board, or get a new machine altogether.

Good luck.

Yes, the T60 Hardware Maintenance Manual. It's available from Lenovo support:
