Firstly, thanks in advance for any and all help that you're willing to share!

Let me describe this in detail. If I plug in the power cord when the computer is completely shut down, the little AC adapter light comes on; if the battery is in as well, then the battery charge light indicator comes on too. When I push the power button, both those lights go off instantly and nothing happens. (if there's no battery in, the adapter will not power up the T60.)

If I try again with JUST the battery, the computer starts up then and only then can the ac adapter plug be used to no effect other than its normal charging job.

Another instance is that if I plug in the AC adapter with the battery in, press the power button, both AC adapter and charging lights will instantly flash off and the T60 will not boot, then to follow up and unplug the AC adapter thinking that with just the battery it will turn the T60 on if I press the button but it doesn't turn the laptop on, instead the only thing that will turn the laptop on is that I also take out the battery and then put in back on after this incident.

This is weird, if anyone has any insight into the fix I would appreciate it.

I don't have a fix unfortunately, but what you describe is familiar. I have two T60s which exhibited this sort of behaviour for a while, and now neither of them will boot at all. The lights come on with a/c connected, but they go off as soon as the power switch is pressed. Nothing happens if I try to boot with just battery power.

I'm not an electrician but I have a lot of experience reworking pcbs with smd's...so my thought would be that there has to be a chip of sorts that controls the power switching once you press the "on" button on the keyboard...question is where is it? If anyone knows, please do tell, I'd love to fix my laptop

You may want to rip the machine apart and look for any moisture-related residue. I had a T42 that behaved in the exact same manner, after disassembling it I found the said residue and trashed the board.

Thank you for the input, I really appreciate it! I would like to know where you found your residue? I have a microscope at my disposal as well as SMD rework station and reballing if need be. I just like to tinker if you will. Trashing the board is easy and buying a new board is cheap, there's no fun in that . Thanks and please let me know where the residue was....seems like a good handful of people have this problem and there are over 300 views but only two replies
