[Mod edit: moved from X6x Series forum]

Hi everyone. I'm trying to overclock my Thinkpad T60-2007B-12 and I am failing. I opened it up and found out the PLL which is ICS9LPR309AKLF. Itried using clockgen but it does not display any pll control or settings tab, I tried setfsb 2.1.78 but it just gave me SMBus error.
I know this is an ld laptop but I really like it and want to overclock it, please help.

Rather than overclock it, you should replace the CPU with a Core-2-Duo:
T5500 1.66GHz 2MB
T5600 1.83GHz 2MB
T7200 2.00GHz 4MB
T7400 2.17GHz 4MB
T7600 2.33GHz 4MB (runs rather hot, though)

The whole point of me overclocking is to gain performance without buying a new CPU. just tell me how to do it please

It is not doable on the platform where you're attempting it...

You need a T7600G if you want to play with overclocking.

All the other CPUs applicable to your machine are "closed" and can not be overclocked...

Not to mention that overclocking of a 7-year old laptop platform is an exercize in futility...

No way to up the FSB?

It is doable to bump up FSB on T60, but a bit complicated:
[Original] ultimate overclocking T60/T60p/X60/Z61t/R60/R60e! (Updated: April 26)
1, cut off clock chip (ICS954309/ICS9LPR309AKL) the the 58 pin (FS_A/USB_48M) at CPU_BSEL0 signal (ie: above 10k resistance
welding out can)
Access to an inverter, clock chip (ICS954309/ICS9LPR309AKL) the pin 58 (FS_A/USB_48M) at
3, the input of the inverter to access a pull-down resistor (3.3K-10K)
Important: (all clock chip: ICS954309/ICS9LPR309AKL Model, no matter what brand, model, can this method
overclocking.)
1, the inverter must be selected is larger than the the the 48Mhz frequency of high-speed chip (such as: NC7SV00
(preferably) or 54S00, 74S00)
This inverter access: 12 ohm in USBCLK_48M signal PLL chip.
3, the direction of the inverter is not reversed: relative to the clock chip output.

The cost of replacing the CPU is very low and considering you're working with a T2400, 1.83ghz 32bit cpu I think if I was going to do extensive modifications to get more speed I'd begin with a more powerful CPU. I'd be glad to provide you a T5500 for $10, or a T7200 for $27 and a T7600 for $79. These are the three best options when you consider cost and performance from lowest to highest. Doing major surgery on your system and risking frying your systemboard and/or cpu in order to "maybe" squeeze a marginal amount of speed from it seems futile to me, especially considering that overclocked cpu's can become unstable and/or overheat, and a much better chip can be had for not much more than a good cup of coffee (or tea).

On the otherhand, if you're doing the mod for fun, then proceed. I'll even give you (free) a couple 1.4ghz core2 (64bit) cpu chips if you want to tinker and see if you can figure a way to get them to run on a T60.

Well, I read the text, looked at the images and found that it was impossible because I don't have any of those electrical components needed for the overclock, I think I'll just waait till I'm able to buy a T7600.

Also, does my thinkpad support T7600G, if yes then I'll buy that instead.

Yes.

With a recent BIOS you can install T7600G...which will likely cost you more than the laptop itself did.

Happy upgrading.
