Unknown socket on the bottom of my Thinkpad T60-2007-B12

#1 Post by HenryJia » Sat Jun 01, 2013 6:52 am

Hi everyone. I recently noticed a strange socket on the bottom of my Thinkpad T60-2007-B12 and I don't know what it is. Can someone please tell me what socket it is and what it can connect to.

I have an image of the bottom of my laptop but I can't figure out how to attach it to this. If someone tells me then I can attach it to this thread.

Are you referring to the docking station connector? The really big one?

You can upload your pictures to e.g. http://www.photobucket.com/ and then put a link to them in your forum post.

OK, as it turns out I don't actually have a picture but I got a picture of a laptop that looks exactly the same as mine off the internet. The socket is in the red rounded square.

As dr_st guessed, it's the docking port. Used when mating the laptop to one of several types of docks / port replicators.

OK, so what can a port replicator connect to and what can those "types f docks connect to" because I'm thinking of upgrading the laptop through the docking station, e.g. add an extra graphics card

If you get an Advanced Dock you will have another ultrabay slot to use. I use mine to store backups, etc.. (from eBay for just a little $)

I had a rough read of it I and so it's like having all the sockets on the back of a desktop and I was thinking that I might be able to up the performance of my laptop through it so I think I'll just ignore it for now because I can't really up the performance through it :?

No it won't "up" your performance, just the productivity.
