ThinkPad T60p monitor issues

I hook up a ThinkVision monitor to my ThinkPad T60p through the VGA port and it never automatically connects no matter how many times I set it in settings. I set it to extend my desktop, but on restart... monitor is not connected. I'm on Windows XP.

The funny thing is when I go to desktop Properties > Settings, it shows three monitors, and I have to select #3 to get it to work. #2 is just... nothing. I'll attach screen shots. Can anybody explain this?

Not sure if you have tried this but have you gone into BIOS and set your 'Boot Display Device' manually? Do not forget to press F10 before exiting to save your settings.

I changed Boot Display Device to VGA+LCD, and it booted up with both screens (the Windows boot logo was duplicated), then when I logged into Windows, it showed my display settings properly. My only worry is that if I open from hibernate or boot up without the 2nd monitor plugged in, it will keep open windows on the 2nd monitor or open new windows to the 2nd monitor even though it's not plugged in. Does this happen or will Windows or the ThinkPad adjust properly?
