loading drivers
loading drivers
I installed windows XP home edition on my Thinkpad T60 (1953 DAU) and I went to
http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloads
to install the drivers and I am having problems. I downloaded the wireless LAN driver and
installed it, but I can not get on the internet. Can someone walk me thru the installation process? Also if you can give me any advice on installing the other drivers, I would appreciate it.

Re: loading drivers
Hi there spacer, welcome to thinkpads.com!
While installing drivers may not be all that intuitive, it's not at all difficult either. All the driver files on the Lenovo site have "Read Me" file included with. Just read through it, and follow the instructions and you will be all set.
On the other hand, you could read the instructions about System Update, and install it, then System Update will find and install the drivers for you.

Re: loading drivers
Downloaded drivers from that era usually don't install on their own. They are only extracted to the folder C:\DRIVERS (or sometimes C:\swtools) and then need to be manually installed from there.

Re: loading drivers
OK. I downloaded the wireless LAN driver and then installed the system update and ran it. I got this message:
Thinkadvantage System Update could not find a supported .NET Framework
what shoud I do to remedy this?

Re: loading drivers
Win XP doesn't contain MS dotnet 2.0 that TVSU needs to install itself.
Get it from here:
http://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download ... px?id=1639
I suppose you could try a higher version than 2.0 but I've never gone higher on the initial install.

Re: loading drivers
thanx for your help. I was able to install all the drivers. It would have
been almost impossible without your help. I was able to install NET.framework
from the installation CD, install the wireless LAN, and then system update did the rest.

Re: loading drivers
I had the wireless driver and subsequent .NET issues doing the R60s, the Lenovo update tool requires .NET 3.0 or 3.5, not 2.0 SP2. Install the 3.x frameworks and it should work wonderfully.

Spacer was installing Win XP which uses TVSU 3.16 and requires dotnet 2
Win 7 uses TVSU 5 and requires dotnet 3.5 or higher

Re: loading drivers
My mistake, the second to last 'pad I built was a T400 on Win7 I may have confused them.

Re: loading drivers
Run Windows Update.
On the main page check any that seem to be hardware related.
Then check the Optional page and do the same.
