Please explain the benefits of SXGA+ over XGA.

Right now, I have two 14" standard-screen 4:3 T61(s) sitting on my desk.

The one on my left, has SXGA+ running at resolution setting 1400 x 1050
The one on my right, has XGA running at resolution setting 1024 x 768

The size of the desktop icons on the left, appear to be same as the ones on the right.

When I change the resolution setting of the T61 on my left to 1024 x 768, the size of its desktop icons on my left become larger than the ones on my right. (Both are running at 1024 x 768)

Is the greatest benefit of SXGA+, in having the ability to choose...
a. 1400 x 1050
b. 1280 x 1024
c. 1280 x 800
d. 1280 x 768
e. 1280 x 720
f. 1024 x 768

---- Edit after 1st reply ---
Now I see why I was confused...
[Control Panel][Appearance and Personalization][Display] screen.

The Windows 7 install default for SXGA+ is "(o) Medium - 125% (default)
The Windows 7 install default for XGA is "(o) Smaller - 100% (default)

In other words...
The SXGA+ T61 on my left was running at 125% magnification.
The XGA T61 on my right was running at 100% or no magnification.

Now that I've reset my SXGA+ machine to 100%, both machines match now.

I am reading this correctly, what you describe does not add up.

SXGA+ should give you significantly more screen real estate than XGA, like being able to see more of a web page or a document...what you're describing doesn't sound right.

What OS are you running?

I love high res screen. More real estate to work with and better for detail pics and detail work. About the only thing I really stress my laptop with are CAD/PDF drawings and Photoshop. On Photoship, my Frankenpad (T60/61) Flexview screen is about as good as it gets when it comes to detail and colour rendition.

I'm a fairly recent convert from the crappy standard screens to high res screens. I'm a addict and probably should check myself in for treatment. This forum is not helping.

I used to be content with regular res garbage (ignorant). Then I came on this forum and wonder why people would go out of their way to keep T4x going and spend money, time and effort on t60/61 Frankies when there are newer, more powerful machines. So one day I picked up a X60T with a Flexview screen for kicks and have.....fallen off the cliff as we say in the cigar world. So I blame FTP for my obsessive search for Flexview screens and replacing regular res screen with better ones. It's kinda cutting into my cigar budget.
