Two batteries failed in just a few days.

I have two generic 9 cell, two genuine 9 cell, and one genuine 6 cell for my T61p.

One of the generic 9 cells never worked for me ever since I got it used. I got a generic 9 cell with about 80% life left and it seems to still be working OK.

The genuine 6 cell will take a very long time to charge, but the laptop will die when it reaches around 75% battery remaining. Can I recalibrate the battery sensor for this or is it even worth doing?

I also have a genuine 9 cell which had about 60% life last I checked. I could get about an hour in on it. However a couple days ago while using it, the laptop suddenly shut off. I plugged it into power and thankfully it started back up but Power Manager told me the battery had failed. Is there anything that can be done about this or is it dead for good?

I have recapped many batteries for Li-ion era Apple Powerbooks from the early 90s so I am not scared of recelling, I just have never recelled a battery of this era. Anyone got experience on that matter?

No. That battery is on its way out, with likely one or more cells blown. You could try completely discharging it and then charging it, if it doesn't die during the process it might improve.

The controller chip has decided that the battery is not good anymore. No re-celling or other finagling will help here.

Batteries used on *6x series - apart from the Panasonic ones - are mostly garbage in my experience. Get a gently used Panasonic battery and keep your fingers crossed.

Thanks for the info, ajkula. I have a low cycle count Panasonic battery on the way, hoping it will last a nice long time!
