fingerprint reader randomly not working at pre-boot on T61

Hello,

I use the fingerprint reader for pre-boot authentication.
Sometimes it does not read any fingerprint, no matter how long I try: I must press esc and enter the password.

Is there any known way to fix the issue, rather than exchanging the hardware?
I already cleaned the contacts.

If I were you, I would completely disable the FPR, it is unreliable and may lock you out of the laptop!
Disable in BIOS and/or remove the FPR connector under the palmrest from the touchpad.
And uninstall that crappy software that goes with it.
