Different monitors being considered the same

I have a 17" monitor at work that I use on my ThinkPad that works at 1280x1024 resolution, and a 15" at home that works at 1024x768 (both not high enough for me), but when I unplug the one at work and go home, it thinks the 15" is the 17". Vice versa when I go to work, and the 17" goes to 1024x768 and I have to set the resolutions each time. Is there a way to get this to just work automatically?

If you're using a VGA cable, I'm not sure there is.

You can defined profiles in Presentation Director to make the switch faster.

How do I access Presentation Director?

By pressing Fn+F7. If it is installed and properly configured, it will pop up. If nothing happens, you can download and install it here:

(Assuming you are using a pre-Win7 OS).
