BT 4.0 on a T61 with FN key support = Yes!

So... I got tired of seeing all the awesome stuff that the newer versions of bluetooth could do, while I was stuck with the factory 2.0 with EDR card. I looked at the WI-FI cards with BT built in, but so many of them took massive hits to their wireless performance when you enabled the BT, as well as not having the ability to use the FN key to enable/disable the radios seperately. Besides I have an AR9390-AL1B card, that I really didn't want to give up, and my screen was dead which meant I would have to into the screen assembly where the BT module is located.

Soo... I searched, no one has tried it, beyond sticking in the WiFi+BT combo cards after flashing middletons bios. I then went and looked at the BT adapters...

T61: 39T0497 @ BDC 2.0
T4x0: 42T0969 @ BDC 2.1
T420: 60Y3275 @ BDC3.0 *requires new software*
T430: 60Y3303 @ BDC4.0 *requires new software* <- the one I got.

The Lenovo Updater refused to see the card, so I went in and found the T420/T430 Bluetooth drivers are the same, and I installed the last version that would work on the currently installed Vista Business x86.

Now I can do all the sweet stuff that newer machines can do, like use my smartphones camera as a webcam!

Driver Software:

Windows XP: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... D=DS029025

Windows Vista: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... D=DS034764

Windows 7/8 driver: http://support.lenovo.com/en_US/downloa ... D=DS028704

Note: The System Updater software may work for you, mine may just be acting up, as I also updated the motherboard, flashed to middletons bios, installed the T400 wristrest, and changed the screen. Just make sure you use the FN key to power up the bluetooth radio before installing the driver software, or the software will complain, and not install until you turn it on. 8)

I can confirme this.
TP bluetooth 3.0 works well on T60 and T61 (frankenpad) with Fn+F5. I used it to connect to my mobile phone and get to internet.
But recently I have installed the miniPCIe 3G modem (Erricsson F3507g) and it works well with Fn+F5 (software from modern thinkpads and pin 20 taping helped).

Besides using my 5MP phone camera as a webcam, it is nice not having my Bluetooth mouse killing Duracell Ultrapower batteries in a matter of weeks.

Glad to hear others are having success. 8)

Out of curiosity, which smartphones can work as webcam? And does it work allright with Skype?

One of the only reasons I have 2 thinkpads right now is the lack of a webcam on the T60 (Frankenpad) chassis.

:O

Not that you would ever get 5 MP quality through a BT connection. I used BT with my smart phone to get internet as well; with my new phone I use wifi so the BT connection is no longer capping my internet speed in bus and train by 80%

If you use your smartphone camera for skype on your thinkpad you might just as well install Skype on your smartphone!? Even my Windows mobile phone worked with skype 8). I didn't bother to install it on my current phone though.
