Hello, I work at a PC Shop, there is currently a T60 Sale, so I decided to buy one for myself. So I started using the T60 and I noticed there is a noticeable yellow tint in the screen, so I decided to check another T60 we have in the supply room so I could change the screen. But the other T60 also has the yellow tint problem. So I decided to check on the T43 we also have. And wow, that was white as a cloud. So. What could I do about it? Do I need to buy another screen or another component. I really like the T60 since I can actually afford one right now (It's at 75 dlls). Since I'm a student I don't have a lot of spare money so I can't afford a new Laptop.

Which screen does this T60 have? Better yet, just give us the seven character type number, and we'll know what we're dealing with here.

Some screens age better than others, and some turn yellowish sooner or later. It could also be a nicotine build up on the surface, if it was used in that kind of environment.

That screen is the famous ThinkPad Flexview...one of the best screens in the land. But, they do have a tendency to yellow just a bit as they age. My advise would be to just use it as-is, you'll probably get used to it's color, and it won't be that noticeable unless you get it right next to something else.

If it's any consolation...the Flexview screens usually produce a more accurate color than others. The reason the T43 looks "whiter" is because it most likely has a higher color temperature, making it more blue (you know blue makes white looker "whiter"). It's what most are used to, even though it's not really what you want for photo editing, for example.

So what you are saying is that this guy has hit the jackpot?

Well, I know a bit about Thinkpads, since I tend to fix a lot of them (except for screen issued like this one.), but the coloring in this one is too yellowish, maybe I will take some pictures when I buy it along a client's T60 I am currently fixing.

I'm not familiar with the yellowing issue, but it has been said that, in general, cold cathode backlights tends to go pink. The final stage just before the backlight tube fails completely, is a very strong pink.

As previously remarked, the assertion of "yellow" may be subjective. I have a new Sony Xperia tablet, with a 1920x1200 ten inch display. Some reviews state that the screen has a yellowish cast. It does not! The reviewers are habituated to low quality LED backlights with a strong blue line.

The strong blue line in a cheap LED backlight comes from the basic excitation frequency of the LED, which is blue. The blue causes a coating on the LED to fluoresce, but some of the direct blue from the LED leaks through.

With cold cathode tube backlights, there are different factors. The tube emits UV, some of which leaks past the phosphor coating, which must be blocked to prevent degradation of the organic structures of the panel. Two ways were used. The older method was a filter, typically made of some kind of plastic, with an amber tint, that functioned as a low-pass optical filter. The result was a warm display. Later, Schott of Germany invented a special glass to make the backlight tube, containing tungsten, that had no tint. The result was a cooler display.

It would be good for the eyes to get used to a warm display. Blue light causes macular degeneration. A lifetime of exposure to current, blueish LED displays may cause a future epidemic of macular degneration. See http://www.macular.org/bluelite.html

So, I decided to buy it today, I have it on my desk right now. I was wondering if I could upgrade to a Merom Core 2 Duo without changing the Mobo, I currently have a Yonah Core Duo (T2500 2.00GHz)
