BIOS Bricked will this work

#1 Post by xeno194 » Sat Nov 09, 2013 10:23 am

Good morning all. Yes i bricked my t-60 (machine type 2007-4CU) Like an idiot i did the the bios update within windows 7 and it hung for an hour. I rebooted the machine and have the famous black screen that does nothing :) .... Is it possible for me to buy the bios chip and replace it to get this unit back to life.

This is the chip im looking at
http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIOS-CHIP-LENOV ... 27cfc80eb2

I have no problem working with SMD parts.

Thank you for any and all help/advice
Mike

Welcome to the forum.
For just a little more ($31.48) you can get it faster from US seller BIOS DEPOT: http://www.ebay.com/itm/BIOS-Chip-IBM-L ... 0348386953
Bought from him a few times, works A-OK.

Hey RBS thank you for the speedy reply and sorry for the delayed response on my end. I'm going to order the chip from the buyer your posted and cross my fingers and hope for the best. This will be my first and hopefully last bios resolder job. Is this chip an exact replacement? Thanks again for all your help

The seller is a Chinese person, but he ships the correct chip, loaded with the latest BIOS/ECP version.
Just in case, he'll only install original IBM/Lenovo BIOS-versions, not modified ones...
Use a magnifier to read the chip's markings, and pass them on to the seller.
The BIOS chip sits at position U49 next to the speaker-socket, and between RAM-slots and the big Southbridge chip.
I don't think he also installs Type/Model and Serial #.
You'd need to use the HMD and DIY after it comes back and has been soldered back in.

Hardware Maintenance Diskette (see your HMM=Hardware Maintenance Manual)
Do It Yourself

Alternatively: I, or someone else, will charge you an SF (Small Fortune) to do it for you.

Weren't some methods of unbricking BIOSes discussed in a few threads a couple of weeks ago?

Or do they not apply to this model?

This 'trick' would also apply to a T60.
