As far as I know, all T61's have a Turbo Memory slot.
Daily driver: X220 4291-P79 i5-2520M

In reserve: X61 T7500, X60 T2300
In pieces: X60s CS U1300 [board only], two retired but working X61Ts
RIP: 760XD 9546-U9E

many thanks for your reply. I have one more question: can I replace the t7100 CPU with t8300 and t9300? Is it necessary to use Middleton BIOS? Can I use also 80 Mhz memory?

Any of these CPUs will work:
T7100
T7300
T7500
T7700
T7800
T8100
T8300
T9300 (most buck for your money)
T9500
X9000

Middleton's BIOS? Definitely.

RAM: either PC2-5300 or PC2-6400 Sodimms, up to 2x4GB = 8GB.

All T61 fans will work with those CPUs, but the best one would be the T61p fan.

Did the Turbo Memory ever achieve something useful??

All I remember about it is that I explicitly disabled it after installing Windows XP

I just was too lazy to open the thing up and get it out of there.

I think the answer was "no".

The slot is useful for add-on cards like the Broadcom CrystalHD though. :D

IMHO - NO.
XP doesn't designed to work with ITM "out of the box".
With 2Gb+ of RAM ITM can't accelerate to mutch. And SSD makes ITM useless (modern SSDs outperform older ITM, but we can't use their SATA III interface).

On T61 (14"W and some 14" 4:3) it is only a waste of second miniPCIe (which primary goal is WWAN card).

I bought a presumably defective T61 very cheap from a forum member here.
The only problem was a defective turbo-memory!
After I removed it, it worked like a charm!
I've come across 2 more T61 with bad turbo-memory, so nowadays I just remove it, without even testing!

How does that defective Turbo memory manifest itself? Is it the same beep code as the nvidia problem? (1 long, 2 short)?
