Hi guys...
My daughter has a T60 type 2008-HC6 that sounds as if it has a dying fan. I don't know if this is one that can be repaired, (cleaned and lubricated), so I'm thinking about opening the case and doing a replacement.
Could someone tell me what fan I need to order to get this computer back up and running like it used to? There is no sign of overheating but the noise factor is very annoying.
She loves this computer and doesn't even want to talk about getting something else. if anyone can help, (or has a good replacement fan at a fair price), please let me know.
Thanks in advance.
Dave

Re: T60 fan noise
Sounds like you need to replace the fan. They are fairly cheap. Download the maintenance manual from Lenovo's website which list the part number along with instructions on disassembly. While you are at it, it's a good time to clean everything out and apply fresh thermal paste.

Re: T60 fan noise
I had a noisy fan on my T60 but I fixed it with a drop of 3 in 1 Oil.
I thought my fan was on the way out too, but it's been running well since I added the drop of oil.
You'll need to remove the fan. I did this, turned it over and put 1 drop of the oil in the middle of the motor spindle.
I did this to mine a few months ago, and it's been running quiet since.
There are some guides online with instructions how to do this. 3 in 1 Oil was recommended, as was sewing machine oil, and cautions were given NOT to use motor oil, or just any type of oil.
Worth a try before going for a new fan.
